When Parkhurst took over Kalamazoo College’s dining services at the beginning of the 2023-24 school year, the campus waited with bated breath to see what changes would be forthcoming. As the school year ends, the late-night food option is the one of the most notable changes. With a select menu available between 8 p.m. to 12 a.m., late-night food has quickly become a staple in the Kalamazoo College experience. The extended hours allow students with homework-induced insomnia a snack in the midst of the chaos of finals.
“I think it’s pretty good, they got a lotta options,” said Francesca Ventura ‘26. Late-night services offer students a number of options, ranging from sandwiches to pizza. However, exclusively the fry and pizza stations of the cafeteria are open during late-night hours. While greasy food can be great sustenance while studying, Randa Alnass ‘27 would prefer “more healthy food options.”
Despite this drawback, the late-night food has been greatly appreciated. “I would definitely bring it back next year,” said Allison Nutt ‘26. Based on the crowds in the Welles Dining Hall, many K students share this opinion.
Since the staff of K dining services were re-directed to be able to bring students this option, the hours of the Richardson Room, commonly known as Stacks, were cut back to the dismay of some students. Olivia Laser ’26 said, “Bring back Stacks!” In the coming trimesters, it seems Parkhurst will have to make a choice. Will they continue to offer late-night food from Welles Dining Hall, or will they return the late-night option of Stacks?
