“What happens to my meal swipes at the end of the week?”
This is often a question that Kalamazoo College Students ask themselves, with many students having leftover meal swipes.
Students may be familiar with the Hungry Hornets program that provides “to go” meals from the cafeteria in Hicks 110 — the room across the hall from the Intercultural Center. It aims to supply students who need extra support with fresh, daily, meals when needed.
On May 2, a new program was unveiled called the “Hungry Hornets Meal Swipes Program”. Through this, students are now able to donate their leftover meal swipes at the end of the week that they didn’t use to a student who may need them.
Students can donate up to three meals per week. The meal swipes are donated to a meal bank where students struggling with food insecurity can sign up to receive these meals. The college wants to ensure all students can get adequate nutrition without judgement.
To donate your meal swipes, follow the instructions below on your phone and submit your extra meal wipes on Saturdays. This is a small way that students can support their peers.
Go to the Kalamazoo College Student Development website. Under student resources click “forms” and then “Meal Swipe Request/Donate Form.” Or, go to https://studev.kzoo.edu/forms/hhmeals/
