Hornets Clinch Back-to-Back League Wins with 70-59 Victory Over Olivet

The Kalamazoo College women’s basketball team defeated the University of Olivet 70-59, improving their overall record to 7-12 and 2-8 in conference play. This marks the Hornets’ first back-to-back league wins since 2020.

Notably, starter Jordan Wesaw was still sidelined due to injury, but Ruby Hogan stepped up with an outstanding performance, finishing with a double-double and a career-high 25 points. She was supported offensively by Lauren Vanderstelt, who also recorded a double-double with a career-high 23 points.

The Hornets faced challenges early on, often picking up their dribble too quickly after moving the ball down the court instead of taking open shots or driving to the basket. However, they made up for this with strong defensive plays from Jackie Brines and Taylor Dinda.

Olivet initially moved the ball well, but Lily Connelly, the team’s leader in several categories, found herself in early foul trouble. Despite having to sit for a while, Connelly managed to score 14 points, while Christina Malackanich contributed a double-double with 18 points.

The Hornets will look to build on this momentum in their next game at Albion on February 5 at 7 p.m.
