The Kalamazoo College men’s basketball team suffered a tough loss to the University of Olivet, falling 61-74, which puts their record at 8-11 overall and 1-7 in conference play. Starters DJ Courtney and Patrick Perez remain sidelined due to injuries. DJ Ferguson returned to playing after missing the previous game, making a positive impact for the Hornets.
Both teams played solid defense early in the game, winding down the shot clock on both sides. Despite this, both teams were able to move the ball effectively. Olivet opted for a zone defense, while Kalamazoo stuck with man-to-man coverage. The matchup was balanced in terms of skill and height, with both teams showing their strengths.
Olivet’s Porter Kretschman had 17 points and 6 rebounds, while Conner Schipper added 17 points and 8 rebounds.
The teams were close in rebounds by the end of the game. Lucan Hanifan had a strong performance with 11 points and 4 rebounds. Lukas Broadsword contributed 14 points and 7 rebounds. Bradley Eziuka finished with 14 points and 8 rebounds, showcasing his versatility by assisting the Hornets both offensively and defensively.
Kalamazoo’s next game will be a home matchup against Albion on February 5th at 7 p.m.
