Since 1877, The Index has been the student newspaper of the Kalamazoo College community. Our staff is solely made up of unpaid student members, and we are proud to operate as an independent publication with no editorial oversight by Kalamazoo College faculty or administration. We, the staff, have sole authority to make content decisions.
We serve as a means of communication between students, administrators, faculty, and members of the Kalamazoo community. We will inform and entertain our readers as well as address the issues that matter to our campus community. Although we are a staff of unpaid student members with varying backgrounds in journalism, we strive to make The Index accurate and adherent to the standards of professional journalism.
As a sounding board for the campus, we accept submissions from our campus community, including letters to the editor. We reserve the right to edit all submissions for clarity, length, grammar, and libel. Therefore, the opinions expressed in The Index should not be considered to be the opinions of the newspaper staff as a whole. Further, all statements made and opinions expressed are strictly those of the student authors and not Kalamazoo College.
Students wishing to join The Index are invited to join us every Monday at 4:30 PM in The Nest in Hicks.
