Kalamazoo Falls Short in 69-68 Loss to Adrian College

The Kalamazoo College men’s basketball team is now 8-10 overall after a close 69-68 conference loss to Adrian College on Wednesday.

Both teams moved the ball well and played aggressively under the basket. You could sense the frustration from both teams as the game was aggressive, but not fast-paced until the start of the second half.

Notably, Kalamazoo was missing two starters—DJ Courtney and Patrick Perez. Additionally, DJ Ferguson and Dougie Blackwood were also out, both of whom provide key contributions on both ends of the court.

In the first half, Lucas Hanifan and Lukas Broadsword stood out on defense as both teams played tough man-to-man coverage. The Hornets did a great job moving the ball and creating open shot opportunities.

The second half saw Carter Bandemer and Nelson Sompa step up offensively. Sompa had three impressive layups, showcasing his ability to drive through defenders and finish at the rim.

Notably, Adrian’s Nick Seifert set a career-high with 26 points, followed by Seth Logan with 16. On Kalamazoo’s side, Broadsword recorded a double-double with 13 points, while Hanifan and Bradley Eziuka each contributed 10.

Kalamazoo fought hard until the final seconds, with a controversial play involving contact between Hanifan and Adrian’s Braylon Dickerson went without a whistle.

The Hornets will look to bounce back when they face Olivet this Saturday at 3 p.m.
